About us

The Professor Jerzy Stelmach Maritime Science Centre (MCN) is a modern educational institution which allows children and adults to discover the secrets of science and technology.

The theme of the centre is the sea, a subject that allows for an attractive presentation of topics in such fields as physics, mathematics, astronomy, geography, medicine, technology, ecology, sociology, history or culture. Showing a variety of phenomena with examples related to sailing, waves, wind, fishing or harbour life makes this facility unique not only in Europe but also in the world.

The Professor Jerzy Stelmach Maritime Science Centre in Szczecin implements the project: “Construction of the Professor Jerzy Stelmach Maritime Science Centre in Szczecin”

Project objective:

Improving accessibility to modern teaching at all levels of education and adapting educational content to the current state of knowledge, state of the art and socio-economic situation; creating a modern cultural and educational infrastructure – a public space which promotes science based on maritime economy and the history of West Pomerania.

The Maritime Science Centre was established by the Councillors of the West Pomeranian Regional Assembly on 12 September 2017. It refers to the legacy and activities of the University of Szczecin Professor Jerzy Stelmach.

(born 25 February 1954 in Wroclaw, died 3 march 2021 in Szczecin)
The Professor at the University of Szczecin, PhD in physics, astrophysicist and cosmologist, populariser of science, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Szczecin, Director of the Institute of Physics at the University of Szczecin; winner of the Krzysztof Ernst Prize of the Polish Physical Society for popularisation of physics in 2011.
Creator of the interactive exhibition “EUREKA” and initiator of the first Science Centre in Poland.

Witold Jabłoński

Director of the Maritime Science Centre

Educated as a historian at the University of Szczecin, he graduated from the postgraduate studies at School of Banking in Poznań – the Academy of Local Government Leaders and Public Procurement, and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków – Intellectual Property Law. PRINCE 2 course and exam at the University of Economic and Business in Wrocław.

Former radio, press and television journalist, director and editor-in-chief of Radio AS in Szczecin and director of Radio Plus in Warsaw. From 2006 to 2010 he was Deputy Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, then President of a foundation, President of a commercial company and Director of Sales and Marketing at the Pomerania Fund. Employed by the World Bank as a short-term consultant on a research project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy.

Olgierd Geblewicz​

Master’s degree in Law and Economics: graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Szczecin and West Pomeranian Business School; completed postgraduate studies “Enterprise Management” at the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw. He started his professional career by working in a bank, then worked for 13 years in the municipal economy sector, including almost 4 years as the President of ZWIK in Szczecin, currently sits on the Supervisory Board of GWIK sp. z o.o. in Goleniów. Since 2019, he is a representative of the local government side of the Joint Government and Local Government Commission on the Supervisory Board of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Warsaw.
